Coming to South Ardèche without a car: also check the last route

The train brings you closer to Ardèche, but it does not drop you off at the gîte. Before buying tickets, look at the complete journey: station, possible coach, stop, access to accommodation with luggage and shopping. The last mile often decides whether the stay will be practical.

Montélimar or Valence TGV, then the bus

Montélimar is a gateway close to Saint-Montan. Consult SNCF Connect for the train that corresponds to your dates; the presence of a direct TGV or a given duration does not apply to every day.

The line E20 connects Montélimar to Pont-Saint-Esprit, notably via Viviers, Saint-Montan and Bourg-Saint-Andéol. The operator publishes the file 2026–2027 and the disturbances. A stop bearing the name of Saint-Montan is not a stop in front of the Mas, located in the hamlet of Eylieux: check its location and the rest of the journey before booking.

The line X76 connects Valence TGV and Montélimar to Vallon-Pont-d’Arc, passing through towns in the Ardèche valley. It is not a direct connection between the Mas and the canoe departures. Compare connections, last return and Sunday services on the regional site.

Before choosing your train, also reread the alerts published on the page E20. Note the stop chosen, the last coach usable on the return, the transport of luggage and the alternative solution if a connection is missed. The journey between the stop and the Mas must be organized separately before purchasing tickets.

What you can actually visit

Visit Viviers or Bourg-Saint-Andéol is a possibility to study with the actual stops and timetables. For each excursion, plan the return trip before leaving and check the walking distance from the stop.

The gorge lookouts and the caves on the plateau require a distinct organization. The site of Saint-Marcel specifies that the bus serves the village, not the cave located in Bidon. A taxi, one-off rental or an excursion can complete the stay, to be booked directly without guaranteed availability. Consult the comparison of caves before choosing the route.

By bike, the ViaRhôna runs along the Rhône in the area of Viviers and Bourg-Saint-Andéol. Look at the route, the shared portions and the relief to reach the hamlet. A valley cycle route does not make all the climbs easy or all the roads safe for children.

Prepare the days at accommodation

The walks around Saint-Montan do not all have the same start. A loop of the village may require a journey from the hamlet; don't count it as a step from your door. Also find the village guide.

For one week with only one accommodation, anticipate shopping, luggage transport and meals. There Mas swimming pool is seasonal. Indicate your means of transport to Pascale before booking to examine access; the rental does not include transfers. The Stay FAQ completes the accommodation information.

The Mas is in the hamlet of Eylieux: its access must be prepared separately from the bus journey.

Practical questions

Can we reach the Mas directly by bus?

The E20 line serves Saint-Montan, but that does not mean that it stops in front of the Mas in the hamlet of Eylieux. Check the stop, last journey, baggage and fares with your dates before booking. No transfer is included in the rental.

Which bus to take for Vallon-Pont-d’Arc?

The X76 line connects Valence TGV and Montélimar to Vallon-Pont-d’Arc. Consult the current sheet for connections, stops and latest returns. It is not a direct shuttle from the Mas.
