A day in Vallon-Pont-d’Arc from Saint-Montan

To bring the Pont d’Arc and Chauvet 2 together in the same day, start with the guided tour ticket. The rest of the program is built around this schedule, adding the road, parking and other spaces on the site.
From Saint-Montan, allow approximately 35 to 40 minutes towards Vallon excluding traffic. This frame deliberately leaves the end of the afternoon open. Our article on outings in Vallon presents other possibilities.
Before departure
Book Chauvet 2 online, then reread the arrival information on the ticket. The site recommends half a day for the whole thing: around an hour in the replica and 3:30 in total according to its FAQ. Details are in our tour guide.
Take water, a hat and something to eat, or choose where to eat. A vest is useful in the replica, cooler than outside in summer. Only book another activity at a fixed time after leaving sufficient margin.
| Chauvet ticket time 2 | Order to prepare | What remains optional |
|---|---|---|
| In the morning | Chauvet 2 route and margin of arrival, site visit, lunch; Pont d'Arc then if access and fatigue permit | One stop to see the arch, with verified parking or shuttle |
| After lunch | Pont d'Arc first if access leaves enough room, then lunch and arrival at Chauvet 2 according to the ticket | The stop at the arch is canceled if parking takes the margin provided |
Keep only one option around the visit. The parking/shuttle schedule is that of the published season; the 2026 program is not valid for another year.
The Pont d’Arc in the fresh air
An early departure allows you to reach Pont d’Arc before the hottest hours. Consult the current access device : parking, walking to the site and shuttles do not need to be improvised on the day of a booked visit.
The time in front of the arch depends on the time of your ticket. If the slot is early, save the Pont d’Arc for the afternoon. Seeing the scenery may be enough; swimming requires looking at the conditions and instructions for the day.
Chauvet 2, without leaving after the replica
The ticket covers a longer discovery than just the guided tour. The Aurignacian Gallery, the exhibition and the activities complete the tour. The self-guided spaces can be visited before or after the replica.
With around 3:30 on site, an entry in the morning easily leads into lunch time. Look at the meal options on site or in Vallon taking into account the journey. The clock should not force you to leave an exhibition that has barely started.
The end of the afternoon can remain free
A mini-canoe descent is only possible if the rental company confirms times compatible with your exit from Chauvet 2, transfers and group capacities. Our guide with children helps check conditions. You can also save the river for another day.
The belvedere route can accompany the return, with time for stops. A night market, depending on the dates, rather extends the evening in Vallon: it therefore changes the return time.
The return to the Mas
After a day of visiting, dinner at the lodge avoids having to look for a new table. Our lodges are in Eylieux; a longer stay allows activities to be spread out over one week in the same accommodation.
