The gorges in August: choose fewer stops and prepare access
In August, wanting to see everything on the same day mainly adds journeys and parking searches. Choose the outing that matters to you, then two simpler solutions for the rest of the stay. No schedule guarantees a deserted Pont d’Arc, but a less busy day leaves more margin.
Le Pont d’Arc: prepare parking and return
Consult access to the Pont d’Arc for parking and shuttle schedule. The seasonal shuttle does not run all year round; free transport does not mean that departure parking is free.
A visit earlier or at the end of the day can avoid some of the heat and crowds. For swimming, also look at the surveillance times: they may not correspond to your preferred time slot. The practical guide to the Pont d’Arc distinguishes this information.
Book the canoe with the professional and leave a margin for the briefing and the shuttle. One night in Gaud or Gournier prepares separately; it is not a guarantee of solitude. For a covered niche, compare the caves rather than leaving without a ticket on a busy day. To Saint-Marcel, prepare in particular the stairs and the route to the entrance, in Bidon.
A main plan and a fallback decided before the road
Plan A: keep the reservation that structures the day. Note the arrival time requested by the cave or the rental company. Choose theofficial access to the Pont d'Arc, parking space and a break before returning. An optional stop may be removed if traffic takes this margin.
Plan B: postpone the stop without a slot if the parking lot is full. Keep your reservation and forgo the detour via the arch, rather than looking for a stop on the road. If the main activity becomes impossible, check its postponement conditions with the professional and choose a visit near Saint-Montan or time at the lodge depending on the weather. A withdrawal should not impose a new exposed route or a second unconfirmed ticket.
The dates of the car parks and shuttles presented in the access guide concern 2026. They remain a historical landmark until the calendar of your stay is published.
Choose a day other than the river
The belvedere route is prepared from Vallon or Saint-Martin depending on your first stop. Leaving from the east can be practical from Saint-Montan; it does not automatically eliminate circulation.
Saint-Montan, Viviers and sector markets offer other exits. Choose according to openings and heat. The calendar of evenings and night markets is verified for your dates.
To walk, choose a suitable guide. To swim elsewhere, consult controlled beaches and the rules of the throats. Seeking fewer people does not justify isolated access, the risks of which are poorly understood.
Spend a day there
In your lodging, you can prepare meals and decide to stay at the estate. The Mas swimming pool opens from mid-May to September depending on the weather, shared in partial rental and exclusive in full privatization. Children remain under adult supervision.
If a strong heat settles in, also adapt the reservations and outings exposed. Present your dates and the composition of the group to prepare accommodation; you can build the program after choosing the nights.

Practical questions
Does an early start guarantee a calm river or safe beach?
No. The schedule can modify crowds and heat, but cannot guarantee current, depth or surveillance. Check the conditions with the operator or on the beach information.
Does the Pont d’Arc shuttle operate all season without interruption?
Its calendar varies according to periods and years. Check the official flyer for your stay and check parking at the departure point.
