When to go to Ardèche? Choose the season of your stay

If your dates are free, compare spring, June and September before booking. If you go during the school holidays, especially prepare for guided departures and the rhythm of the days. The month helps organize the stay; it does not guarantee the temperature or the level of the river.
Choose according to what you want to do
| Your priority | Periods to compare | What needs to be confirmed |
|---|---|---|
| Villages, heritage and walking | Spring, June, September and autumn | Weather, opening of visits, difficulty of trails |
| School holidays with swimming pool | July and August | Availability of the gîte, swimming pool conditions and booked activities |
| Canoe or stay with bivouac | Calendar published by the organizers | Opening of bivouacs, age, swimming and navigation authorization |
| Rest and visits out of season | Autumn and winter | Open sites, restaurants and services for the chosen dates |
For a stay centered on water, look at the swimming conditions and the canoe course before setting a day. The season alone is not enough to choose.
June or September depending on your group?
| Your stay | In June, check… | In September, check… |
|---|---|---|
| Young children | School dates, scheduled visits and breaks | Family rhythm, openings after summer and solution for rainy weather |
| Canoe | Rental offer, swimming, age and navigation conditions | Offer still open, weather, flow and return |
| Group gathered at the table | Beds, meal setup and agreed withdrawal | The same spaces and services for your dates, even after the high season |
This choice compares constraints to be confirmed. It does not predict a temperature, availability, or pleasant swimming; the Mas swimming pool remains seasonal and depends on the weather.
In spring, prepare visits and walks
You can build the stay around a village, a cave and walks. However, be flexible: a rocky trail does not offer the same conditions after rain, and a site may open on a reduced schedule.
Consult thetourist office for your week's visits and events. An early start for a walk is decided by the weather, not just by the date on the calendar.
In summer, reserve departures and keep breaks
In July and August, book activities that have a slot, then leave free beaches around. Our guide to avoiding concentrations of visitors helps distribute outings; that of family activities allows you to choose according to the children.
At the Mas, the swimming pool is shared in partial rental and exclusive in complete privatization. Opening depends on the weather, with no guaranteed water temperature. For extreme heat, prepare a program with less travel and consult the vigilance Météo-France.

September and autumn have their own calendars
The end of the school holidays may be suitable for a visiting trip, but some seasonal services stop. Check the timetables for the caves, the Pont d'Arc shuttle and the bivouacs: their opening periods are different.
After rain or thunderstorms, follow local advisories and closures. A mild day does not guarantee a swimmable river or a passable trail. Prepare a rainy weather option.
Check the dates of the lodge before those of the activities
Compare the lodges, their beds and their outdoor spaces. To understand what to ask about the swimming pool, also consult our guide to choosing a cottage with swimming pool.
Send your dates, size and group needs to Pascale. Once accommodation is confirmed, you can book visits without multiple constraints on the same day.
Practical questions
Do June or September guarantee pleasant swimming?
No. Temperature, flow, water quality and prohibitions depend on current conditions. Check local information before choosing a swim or canoe trip.
Is the Mas swimming pool open all year round?
The swimming pool is outdoor and generally opens from mid-May to September depending on the weather. It is shared in partial rental and exclusive in complete privatization.
