Activities
Ardèche with family: activities and holiday schedule

With kids, a great day doesn’t need three reservations. Choose an outing that suits them and keep the rest free: lunch may last, a little one may need to sleep, a teenager may prefer to stay at the lodge.
For dates, accommodation and budget, our holiday guide in Southern Ardèche proposes the first decisions. Here, above all, prepare the activities according to the age, mobility and desires of each person.
On the water, choose according to the swimmers
A short descent around the Pont d’Arc and a crossing of the gorges do not require the same endurance. The rule recalled by the tourist office is at least seven years old and able to swim for a descent without an instructor. Some outings with a qualified instructor accept younger children who know how to swim; the professional confirms the conditions of his course.
Before booking, provide the age of the children, their comfort level in the water and the experience of the adults. Ask for total time with briefing and shuttle, not just paddling time. Our guide to canoeing with children helps ask these questions.
For swimming, look for a beach with lifeguards during its lifeguard hours. The bathing water portal indicates the monitored sites and their seasonal information. Water that appears calm is not enough to judge current or depth.
A cave or a village, tailored to the group
Chauvet 2 allows you to discover the prehistoric paintings in a replica. The site announces one hour of guided tour and approximately half a day for all the spaces. It’s a real outing, to be prepared according to the child’s attention.
Saint-Marcel and Orgnac are natural caves. The number of steps counts: Saint-Marcel indicates 416 steps in total; Orgnac 700 to go down, with lift back up. Check stroller reception and everyone’s mobility before purchasing tickets. The comparison of caves brings together the differences.
Saint-Montan suitable for a shorter walk: alleys, stone facades, then a break. Climbs and stairs can be tiring; the visit to the castle has its own times and prices. Find the village guide.
Spend time at the Mas
After an outing, finding your accommodation avoids having to invent a new program. The Mas gîtes each have their own kitchen, toilet and shower. You can prepare a meal, pack up your river gear and stay put.
The Mas swimming pool opens from mid-May to September depending on the weather; it is shared in partial rental and exclusive in complete privatization. Children remain under the close supervision of adults. For a walk, choose a official route adapted to the terrain and conditions of the day.
In the exit bag: water, hat, sun protection, suitable shoes and warm clothing for the underground visit. In case of rain or high heat, change the output rather than maintaining the program at all costs.

Getting together with family: the words of a traveler
In his Google review of the Mas d’Eylieux, Nathalie Dupas recounts a weekend for her 60 years, shared with her family and friends. For this stay indicated in June 2025, it retains:
“the greenery, the calm and the beauty of the site”
This short extract comes from its public notice, noted on 2 October 2026. Find traveler reviews and the guide to dividing several families into gîtes. For availability, beds and your arrival, consult the practical information, then chat with Pascale.
Practical questions
Which activity to choose in Ardèche with young children?
One main outing is often enough: a short walk in a village or a covered visit tailored to their needs. Check the steps and stroller reception for the caves. Canoeing requires respecting the age and swimming conditions of the course.
