Strong heat in Ardèche: choose your outings and take real rest time

Photo coming soon

In high heat, the program may wait. A hike planned for weeks doesn't mean you have to leave, and a river doesn't become safe because you want to cool off. First look at the vigilance Météo-France and the forecast for Saint-Montan, then adapt the day.

A visit underground during the hot hours

The official sites announce 14 °C in Saint-Marcel, 12 °C at Aven d’Orgnac and approximately 16 °C depending on the season in the Chauvet 2 replica. These are the temperatures of the underground spaces, not their parking lots or all their buildings. Take a sweater, including for children.

Coolness does not solve the issue of steps: consult reception at Saint-Marcel, the Orgnac route or Chauvet 2 FAQ depending on the mobility of the group. Reserve the slot before traveling. Our guides Saint-Marcel and Chauvet 2 allow you to prepare for the journey and the visit.

Shorten the exit outside

A village like Saint-Montan can be visited in small steps. Choose a cooler period, find shade and keep something to drink. An early start does not guarantee that a long walk will be reasonable: if the heat is strong, give up the exposed part.

For the canoe, describe your group to the professional and check the conditions of the day. The paddle, briefing and shuttle return also provide exposure to the sun.

In river, consult prohibitions, water quality and monitoring schedules. Don't look for an isolated basin to avoid the world. In the event of a storm or rising water levels, change the program.

On the way back, shade and fewer journeys

At the Mas, you can prepare meals in your lodging and leave part of the day free. None of the Mas's gîtes are air-conditioned. If this question is important to you, specify your needs before booking.

The outdoor swimming pool is open from mid-May to September depending on the weather. It does not replace either shade or supervision of children. Also take into account loved ones who are more sensitive to heat when you choose the period of your stay.

Practical questions

Are all caves the same temperature?

No. Saint-Marcel announces 14 °C, Aven d’Orgnac 12 °C and Chauvet 2 around 16 °C depending on the season. These landmarks concern underground spaces. Steps, access and times can be checked with the chosen site.

Can we count on the river during a heatwave?

Heat does not guarantee safety or permission to swim. View site information, water quality, weather and bylaws. Choose a supervised beach during its opening hours, never leaving children without close supervision.
