Visit Viviers: from the house of the Knights to the cathedral

In Viviers, the visit leaves from the lower town then goes up to Saint-Vincent Cathedral. The Knights' house, the alleys and the stairs provide enough to occupy half a day without adding a second city to the program.
From the Mas, allow around ten minutes by car outside of traffic. For a Tuesday outing, the market can precede the walk.
The Renaissance facade before the rise
The House of Knights is located in the lower town. Its sculpted facade recalls the development of Viviers in the 16th century. Watch it from the street before heading into the alleys of the upper district; heritage does not only begin at the cathedral.
The tourist office offers information on guided tours of this city of art and history. A guided tour can explain the facades and open certain places according to the program: check what is included before booking.
Saint-Vincent Cathedral
The streets towards the canonical quarter are sloping, with cobblestones and stairs. The climb deserves shoes that grip, especially after the rain. For a person who has difficulty walking, ask for access options rather than following a route advertised as “easy” without further details.
The cathedral combines several eras of construction. Its Gothic bedside, its vault and the tapestries are among the elements presented by heritage sources. Check visiting hours and respect religious services; a place of worship is not open for walking at all hours.
Then take the time to look at the roofs and the landscape from around the upper district, then go back down via the authorized streets.
On Tuesday, also plan purchases
The Viviers market is held on Tuesday morning, Place de la Roubine, according to the tourist office calendar 2026. Our guide to markets around Saint-Montan gives the other days of the sector. If you buy fresh produce before the visit, plan to store it.
The ViaRhôna passes in the Viviers sector. To come by bike or without a car, check each portion of the route, including that which joins the Mas; the proximity of the cycle route does not guarantee direct access to the gîte.
Another half day in Saint-Montan
The Mas table, under the arbor, welcomes the return of the visit.
You can keep Saint-Montan or Bourg-Saint-Andéol for another day: nearby routes allow visits to be spread out. Our lodges are in Eylieux, in the commune of Saint-Montan. To prepare your dates, contact Pascale.
